In its broadest outline my scholarly interest
concerns identities. How Indian civilization adjusted to the Western
civilization during the colonial times, how contemporary India responses to the
global challenges and how elites feel in the transitional times and their role
in such periods – the problematic questions I am trying to find the answers on
in the series of investigations.
My PhD thesis was dedicated to the formation
process of the class of educated Indians in North India during colonial times.
My current scholarly work is concentrated on such topics as roots and actual
status of nation making in the country, religiosity of middle-class nowadays
and how it reflects in contemporary Indian press and fiction in English
(Aravind Adiga’s, Arundhati Roy’s, Kiran Desai’s, Jhumpa Lahiri’s novels etc.).
I have published and presented in Ukraine and
abroad on diverse topics including westernization of British India through the
eyes of Russian travelers, the development of Bhaarat Maataa image in Indian
literature and visual arts, caste-question in the works of prominent
politicians and thinkers of colonial North India, western roots of Indian
nationalism in colonial times etc.
Having part time job at the Bohdan and Varvara
Khanenko National Museum of Arts (http://khanenkomuseum.kiev.ua), which held
the biggest collection of Asian art in the country, I investigate Buddhist art,
especially bronze sculpture from 10th till 20th centuries.
The separate branch of scholarly work is dedicated to
Vaishnava studies. Taking part in the annual International Religious science
school “VAISHNAVA TRADITION THROUGH THE AGES”
I develop such topic as the adjustment of traditional Bengali Vaishnavism to the modern needs in 19th – the beginning of 20th century, focused on the Bhaktivinoda Thakur’s works.
