ISKCON News is sad to report the deaths of two devotees, Sanatana Goswami Dasa and his wife Kalavati Devi Dasi, disciples of HH Partha Sarathi Das Goswami, who were shot and killed by a Russian soldier in the village of Nechaevo near Oleshek.
According to residents of the area, the incident occurred on Saturday, November 5th. Locals discovered their bodies, and a suspect was taken into custody. According to one report, he confessed to the crime. A specific motive is still not known, and there is no official acknowledgment by the Russian occupying forces.
Local devotees said Sanatana Goswami and Kalavati lived a simple life, caring for a cow and gardening on their village land. They regularly held namahatta meetings in their home, loved participating in harinam, and frequently participated in nagara kirtan.
Devotees from the local area gathered for a memorial service and kirtan.
